{29} UNITED KINGDOM UFO MAILING LISTDate: 4th December 1995 - Members = 219In this mail:-If dinosaurs had lived.UFO Capital of Britain. The English scene - direct from Stanton T. Friedmans WWW Home Page.UFO link to cow carcass horroe in Ireland. Bill Clinton in Belfast."From: Sunday Express newspaper.Date: 19th November 1995.If dinosaurs had lived. The scaly four-foot-high creature with its bulbous eyes and largebrain calls to mind a humanoid alien from Star Trek. But this is no distant, other-wordly cousin of man. This is thecreature that might have ruled the Earth in his place, a smarter, nimbler descendant of the dinosaur.Dr Dale Russell, senior curator of the North Carolina Museum ofNatural Sciences, says that towards the end of their reign, dinosaurs were showing a tendency to develop human like features, like grasping hands. Some stood upright and used highly cunning and intelligent huntingmethods. The smaller dinosaurs looked more like us than the ancestors of man,the four legged, naked, tailed hairy beasts from around the lateCretaceous period, says Dr Russell. He created a model of what oneof these advanced dinosaurs might have developed into today, a small,intelligent-looking creature vastly different from the tiny-brainedmonsters wiped out, it is believed, when a giant meteor hit theEarth 65 million years ago.The book hunting Dinosaurs, by Louie Psihoyos (Cassell 18.99), tellshow Dr Russell came across one dinosaur skullcap in a museum and wasstruck by the size of its brain. He searched for other remains, and a ranchers wife in Alberta,Canada, showed him the skeleton of a Troodon, the most advanced ofthe meat eating dinosaurs, with big eyes, a large brain cavity andgrasping hands. It walked on two legs."We made a model and I thought why not extend the brain developmentcurve I had worked on with the Search for ExtraterrestrialIntelligence people at NASA, and fit this dinosaur into it," said DrRussell. "We started with the head and worked down. Although itlooks like an alien, that's because I was trying to make it asdinosaur-like as possible.""If these creatures had been alive today there would have been noneed for man.""We are just the mammalian answer to what they would have been."But he believes that just as dinosaurs would have become brainier,so man's intelligence has grown since the evolution of homo erectus amillion years ago."In evolutionary terms we are going through an incredibly high rateof change.""I would like to be around in a million years to see how wedevelop." "From: The Sun newspaper.Date: Tuesday, November 21st 1995.UFO CAPITAL OF BRITAIN'FLYING CIGAR' SWEPT OVER USHousewife Katie Swanston can never forget the day she believes shesaw a UFO.Katie, her seven-year old son Andrew and Mother May Higgins, 71,reported seeing a cigar shaped UFO - a common form of sighting - asthey sat in the garden at 9pm one evening last summer. Katie, 32,says: "I'm now prepared to accept there is intelligent life inspace.""There was no noise, no markings or windows and no visible energysource.""The craft was just a couple of hundred feet up.""We live on an airport flight path but this was unlike anyhting I'veever seen."HIGH-RISE PAIR SEE SHIP HOVERWilliam and Mabel Bestall have seen a catherine-wheel shaped craftthree times in a year from their seventh floor flat. The couple have witnessed the craft fly over the valley and hoverover Bonnybridge before turning off its fluorescent white lights anddisappearing. Neither local airports nor the police reported anyaircraft which could match the Bestalls descriptions.William reported their sightings to the local newspaper and over thenext few days he was flooded with calls from neighbours saying theyhad seen the same thing.William, 73, says: "We're no cranks."9,000 RESIDENTS..2,000 SIGHTINGSA quiet village has become the UFO capital of Britain. In the past three years more than 2,000 sightings of unidentifiedflying objects have been reported over Bonnybridge, which lieshalfway between Glasgow and Edinburgh.Local UFO investigators believe at least 300 of these cannot beexplained away by aircraft, weather balloons or other phenomenon.Nick Pope, the former offcial UFO investigator for the Ministry ofDefence, says that a number of sightings could be extra-terrestrial.And interest in Bonnybridge, which has a population of just 9,000,has become so great the village is now the centre for conferences ofUFO specialists from around the world.Former American nuclear physicist and UFO expert, Stanton T.Friedman says: "There are several hotspots for UFO sightings likeBonnybridge around the world.""Maybe they form a part of a group of places being intensivelystudied. To an alien lifeform one place may be as good as any otherto take samples."Billy Buchanan, Bonnybridge's local councillor, says: "There issomething strange going on in this place. There are level-headedpeople I have know all my life telling me they have been abducted byaliens."Billy, 47, began campaigning for an official investigation after hetoo saw strange lights. He says: "Hardly a fay goes by without someone contacting me about asighting. These are not cranks but people whose opinion I respect. Alot of people are frustrated that they can't get anyone to listen tothem. I urge them to go to the police, that's the only way we aregoing to get any investigation."Gary Wood and Colin Wright believe they were abducted by alienswhile driving from Bonnybridge to Edinburgh in August 1992.They claim they lost several hours when power drained from there carafter they passed through a curtain of light.EXPERIMENTAfter that they believe they were taken into a spaceship to beexperimented on by skeleton type beings.Under separate hypnosis both recalled exactly the same details.Malcolm Robinson, 38, from Strange Phenomena Investigations, who hasbeen investigating cases in Bonnybridge since 1979, says: "There ismore evidence in this one place that UFO's are visiting Britain thanalmost anywhere else. Some say it is just planes or weatherballoons. But the sheer number of sightings makes it difficult to putdown everyone's experiences to something like this. We are told bythe Ministry of Defence that this activity in Bonnybridge does notconstitute a threat to national security. But it would put a lot ofpeople's minds at rest if they could at least investigate."CHASED BY SPACECRAFTOne of the most chilling stories is told by the Sloggett family. While walking near their home, Isa Sloggett and children Carol, 29,and Steven, 13, claim they saw a spacecraft that chased them.Isa, 55, says: "We were all absolutely terrified - and convincedthat we had seen a UFO. Steven thought he saw a flash of light andsomething fly over. Then we saw this circular craft about the sizeof a house with two blinding blue lights. It landed in moorland. Inoticed two smaller craft above the first one. Then we heard thesound of what seemed to be a mechanical movement, as if some sort ofdoor was opening. I think that's when we began to get really scared. We began to run back along the road. One of the craft in the skyfollowed us. Eventually it gave up, but we didn't stop running untilwe got home. Our neighbours were sceptical when we told them but nowmany of them have seen things too."Direct from Stanton T. Friedmans WWW Home Page.A Monthly Report: November 11thTHE ENGLISH SCENE...It has indeed been a busy time on my UFO calendar. As noted lastmonth, I had 8 talks scheduled for the United Kingdom, and one inDusseldorf, Germany. My agent kept me busy indeed as the publicistarranged for well over 20 interviews with radio, TV, and printjournalists. I spent an awful lot of time on trains dashing amongstthe 9 cities, and in taxies in London to interviews. The crowdswere, in general, excellent even in venues normally used for Rockconcerts! It was clear that neither the audiences nor the media people werevery knowledgeable about the factual side of the UFO debate. Often noone in the audience had read any of the 5 large scale scientificstudies to which I often refer.OXFORD UFO DEBATEIn some ways the highlight of the UK trip was the Oxford UniversityUnion Society Debate on October 25. Students in formal evening wearran the show (sponsored by Encounters Magazine) in the packed oldauditorium. The resolution before the House:"This House Believes that intelligent alien life has visited thePlanet Earth."There were some very clever and humorous talks by students who knewabsolutely nothing about the subject! My colleague Harry Harris, asolicitor from Manchester, dealt with various abduction cases usingaudio tapes. I used a number of slides focusing on factual data, large scale scientific studies, daytime photos, Roswell etc..not easyin 20 minutes. Anchor for the negative team was writer Peter Brookesmith who usedquotes from various contactees and tabloid publications, but seemedtotally unfamiliar with the evidence I had just presented. Onlymembers of the Society were allowed to vote. The official tally, released one week later, was:YES: 207. NO: 140. Thus 60% of the members agreed with the proposition!"From: ISCNIA*Flash -- Vol. 1, No 17 -- November 16.UFO LINK TO COW CARCASS HORROR IN IRELAND[ISCNI*Flash thanks Terry Colvin for the following story. Terrynotes that this story appeared in the UK paper "Sunday Life" onOctober 29. He states further: "What is remarkable is that such astory appeared in such a newspaper. The Sunday Life is a paper which, though being tabloid sized, shys away from the traditional Sundaytabloid diet of sexy stories and outrageous shocks. Last year or theyear before it was named UK Regional Newspaper of the Year. The factthat such a story appears in such a mainstream paper I think is partof a more general trend towards interest in unusual phenomena inmainstream society."]A grisly animal mutilation at a County Down [Ireland] farm is beingconnected with UFO sightings in the area.Several people in South Armagh and Omeath have reported seeing alarge circular ball of light in the evening sky. At the same time theUFO research group QUEST was contacted by a farmer in Carnlough whoreported the mutilation of one of his cows. Miles Johnston fromQuest said: "The cow carcass had been drained of blood, the flesh hadbeen removed from its head and its vital organs were gone."The organs were sucked out through a clean incision made by somehi-tech laser device.""This is the first case of its kind in Northern Ireland but it hashappened to thousands of animals in the US and Britain.""Date sent: Mon, 4 Dec 1995 From: Iain Bryson Subject: Bill Clinton in BelfastBill Clinton reading out letters sent to him while turning on thexmas lights in Belfast (30/11/95)..."And to 13 year old Ryan from Belfast, If you're out there tonightRyan the answer to your question is NO, an alien space craft did notcrash in Roswell New Mexico in 1947. And No, the U.S. Air Force didnot recover pieces of the space ship, but if they did, I wish theywould tell me too.""Dave.
