A NEW BOOK CALLED "FIRST CONTACT: SCIENTIFIC BREAKTHROUGHS IN THE HUNT FOR LIFE BEYOND EARTH" by Marc Kaufman says that says that famed British scientist Stephen Hawking believes that advanced alien civilizations exist and, says the book, "would more likely raid Earth for its resources and move on" rather than occupy this planet long-term.
HAWKING SAYS THAT ALIEN VISITORS ARE SOMETHING TO BE AFRAID OF, and that we are being careless by sending signals about our existence and location. He says the search for extraterrestrial intelligence (SETI) could actually put us in danger of being discovered by beings who are currently unaware of us. We don't know their intentions, after all, and they might be warm and fuzzy.
THE BRITISH GOVERNMENT RECENTLY RELEASED MORE THAN 8,500 UFO-RELATED DOCUMENTS. Dave Masko at Huliq writes that those British documents " include links to tens of thousands of other UFO sighting material" and "confirm reports in Federal Bureau of Investigation files that are now available to the public." OF COURSE, THE NOTION THAT AN ALIEN INVASION FORCE WOULD MOVE ON after gathering what it came for, and not make a permanent encampment of Earth, is of little comfort to those who believe.
IN MY OWN OPINION, Hawking makes a valid point about keeping a light on for potentially dangerous visitors. HOWEVER, we should probably be more concerned about the planet being HIT BY A KILLER ASTEROID. There have been many, many UFO sightings over the decades and centuries, and so far we've not been raided Viking style. If, as Hawking says, the UFO sightings indicate that extraterrestrials are preparing for invasion, they're certainly taking their time.
