In March 1639, America's first recorded UFO was sighted late one night over the Charles River in Boston, Massachusetts. Lights sped back and forth across the Charles River from Back Bay Fens to Charlestown. Governor John Winthrop made an entry in his journal regarding this strange event. This account was later published in The Journal of John Winthrop, 1630-1649 (John Harvard Library) The witness and incident were described as follows:
"One night in March of 1638 or 1639, James Everell ("a sober, discreet man"- Winthrop) and two companions boarded a little boat and set out for a trip on the Muddy River in Boston. They had been moving downstream for about a mile when the night's mysterious events began. The three men were suddenly confronted with the appearance of a huge, bright light hovering in the sky. The light "flamed up" as it hovered and appeared to be about "three yards square." As they watched, the light "contracted into the figure of a swine" and moved "swift as an arrow" in the direction of Charlton [Charlestown]. For two or three hours, the unidentified light moved back and forth in the sky between Everell's location and Charlton. When the light finally disappeared, the men noticed to their dismay that they had somehow been carried against the tide back to the place where they had started their trip! Governor Winthrop noted, "Divers[e] other credible persons saw the same light, after, about the same place."!"
Governor Winthrop appears to have been puzzled by the occurrence, devoting no less than two separate notes about it in the index to his history. The first merely gives a lengthy rendering of the sobriety and piety of the primary witness James Everell ("a good man of reputation, activity and good estate") and another detailed note speculating whether the sighting was due to "demonic influences" or was ghost lights or will o' the wisps (an early version of swamp gas).
It's worth noting that the figure in the sky appeared to turn into "the figure of a swine." Everell was a leather dresser, meaning he worked with the hides of animals, tanned them, and turned them into leather goods. The "swine" or pig was the only shape in his mind that he could relate to. A far as legs of the swine, is it possible that these were struts or landing gear of a craft?
Winthrop's account also claims the event lasted two or three hours, which rules out any chance of the object being a meteor. 1638 was almost 150 years before the first balloon flights, so the possibility of the object being man-made is also ruled out. The witness also claims that their small boat was pushed back against the tide about one mile (back to where they first set their boat in the water) while they watched the object in the sky. Could this be a "lost time" phenomena? Were they physically moved by the object in the sky? Could it be they were mistaken as to the tide because they were distracted by the unidentified object in the sky? This UFO close encounter may have been more close than originally thought.
As to Winthrop's trust of the witness, stating that he was "a sober, discreet man" he also included a footnote about Everell: "He was a man of reputation, activity and good estate in Boston many years afterwards. With his wife, Elizabeth, he had been received into Boston church 20 of July, 1634, being Nos. 239, 240. His will, made 11 December, 1682, proved 2 February following, is found in our Probate Registry, vol. VI. 400."
The following footnote about the sighting was added in the 1825 edition of Winthrop's Journal:
"This account of an ignis fatuus [pale light over marshy ground] may easily be believed on testimony less respectable than that which was adduced. Some operation of the devil, or other power beyond the customary agents of nature, was probably imagined by the relaters and hearers of that age, and the wonder of being carried a mile against the tide became important corroboration of the imagination. Perhaps they were wafted [carry lightly], during the two or three hours' astonishment, for so moderate a distance, by the wind; but, if this suggestion be rejected, we might suppose, that the eddy [whirlpool], flowing always, in our rivers, contrary to the tide in the channel, rather than the meteor, carried their lighter back."
THE AREA OF MUDDY RIVER WHERE THE UFO WAS PROBABLY SIGHTED
Muddy River is located at Back Bay Fens, opposite Cambridge, MA, and diagonally across from Charlestown. Back Bay wasn't filled-in at that time, and a large area of open water existed in the river that was then called Broad Bay. The distance to Charlestown would have been more than two miles.
The Charles River, prior to being dammed, had great tidal flow, and would drain much of Back Bay each day, and then replenish it. Muddy River likely had a larger volume of water flowing through it in 1639, but it is unlikely that a great eddy existed near its mouth. Thus, it is unusual for witnesses to assert they were unmoved by tidal flow (in a small boat) for more than two hours.
Muddy River, the hamlet, eventually became the separate town of Brookline. Pigs and other cattle were stored there during summer while corn was growing in Boston. It is safe to deduce that the UFO witnesses had seen or heard swine on the same day they observed the great light. Thus, the lights resembled a common animal, making it probable they saw ignis fatuus mirage phenomena in the darkness.
In any case, the event was observed by divers (many) people, and noteworthy enough for the Puritan Governor to document it in his private journal. Besides the one paragraph and two footnotes, Winthrop writes nothing more on the subject of North America's first UFO sighting and possible alien abduction.
NOTE: John Winthrop, Esquire (1588-1649) has the distinction of being the first elected governor of the Massachusetts Bay Colony.
Winthrop was an English Puritan who sought religious refuge in the New World. He was passionate about his faith, and he believed God would punish England for not expunging any remaining traces of Roman Catholicism from the Church of England. It's important to note Winthrop's beliefs because it's possible he may interpret any out-of-the-ordinary event as being religious in nature.
The pilgrims aboard the Mayflower had already blazed the trail in 1620, so when Winthrop arrived in 1629, an English colony was already well established. In yet "another" intriguing twist in the seemingly never-ending saga that goes by the name of "Roswell," we see a new story that - in several respects, at least - dovetails closely with at least "some" of the data contained in my own (2005) book on Roswell: "BODY SNATCHERS IN THE DESERT".The latest story appears in a newly-published book from author Annie Jacobsen, titled "AREA 51: AN UNCENSORED HISTORY OF AMERICA'S TOP SECRET MILITARY BASE". The book includes a thought-provoking story suggesting that the Roswell craft and bodies were, in reality, the diabolical creations of a near-Faustian pact between the notorious Nazi (and "Angel of Death)," Dr. Josef Mengele and Soviet premier, Joseph Stalin.The purpose of this early Cold War plan: to plunge the United States into a kind of "WAR OF THE WORLDS"-style panic (echoing the Orson Welles affair of 1938) by trying to convince the U.S. Government that aliens were invading.And how would the plan work? By placing grossly deformed children (courtesy of the crazed Mengele) inside a futuristic-looking aircraft designed by the brilliant aviation experts, the Horten brothers, and then try and convince the U.S. of the alien origins of both. "THE FLYING SAUCER" begins with a series of worldwide "UFO crashes" (involving distinctly terrestrial vehicles built for this specific task): the first in England, the second in New Mexico, and the third in Russia. The "crash sites" are carefully chosen and involve all of the three major powers that emerged out of the carnage of the Second World War. But, the work of the scientists is only just beginning. Not content with creating its bogus UFO crashes, the team takes things one step further and constructs a faked "alien body" that is pulverized in one of the crashes, and is then presented to the world's scientific community as evidence of the alien origin of the creatures that pilot the craft. As a result of these events - and with remarkable speed - the many and varied differences between the governments of the Earth dissolve under the "Martian" threat and the final chapter of Newman's book sees practically every international political problem hastily resolved. So, we have a story told to me (between 2001 and 2004, and published in 2005 in "BODY SNATCHERS IN THE DESERT"), and a story provided to Annie Jacobsen and newly-published.Yes, of course, there are big differences: in Jacobsen's book the Roswell event is the result of a failed Soviet, Cold War-era deception, and in my book the incident results from the equal failure of a secret, domestic operation.Weird-looking aircraft designed and built by the Horten brothers, handicapped children with large heads and dwarfish bodies, and faked UFO events: key components of two stories told to two authors, and both linked with Roswell.Are we seeing evidence of governmental deception, perhaps of a definitively psychological warfare nature? Is one story true and the other a mutated, distorted version of the truth, but spread and carefully altered by disinformation artists at an official level to confuse the Roswell saga even more?I do not know. But I suspect the "human experiment" angle of Roswell is set to be deeply scrutinized yet again... I cleared my throat to give my voice that sound of reserved politeness most people expect on a business phone; and then, with a little Irish impishness I answered, "Good morning!... It's Perth - the other side of Earth!... (pause)".
"Is a Mr. Stan Deyo there please?" came the somewhat amused voice on the other end.
"You gottim, chief", I replied.
"I beg your pardon?" he queried again.
"I said, you've got him. It is me you wish to speak to..."
"Oh,... sorry, uh... My name is Brian" (I couldn't hear the last name as the line faded.)
"You don't know me; but a mutual friend of ours in Melbourne suggested I ring you over this morning's UFO incident off King Island near Cape Otway..."
As he continued, I thought to myself... "Why me? I'm missing a perfectly good breakfast over a perfectly typical 'I-saw-a- coloured-light-in-the-sky' phone call.."
"Have you heard the details, yet?" he asked.
"No... I haven't read the paper yet;... we were just sitting down to breakfast when you rang..."
"Oh! Sorry, mate... forgot about the time difference!" he apologized.
"Don't worry about it...", I said while I thought how many times I had been roused from a perfectly good sleep by similar eastern-states calls. "Can you give me a brief rundown on it?"
"Sure. The media over here are going wild over a possible UFO abduction case. It seems that last Saturday night, around 7:l0 or so, a young pilot from Melbourne was grabbed - plane and all - right outta the air off the south-eastern coast of Australia. Ground control at King Island had radio contact for about six minutes while the pilot described the damn thing. He reported four very bright landing lights moving at an incredible rate overhead at about 5,000 ft. altitude.."
Louise came in with a frown and a 'wind-it-up' gesture. "This is important!", I whispered, "I'll tell you why in a minute; go get the newspaper off the lawn."
He continued, "He told ground control it was four 'metallic' lights on a long shape that seemed to be orbiting his plane. It had a green glowing light all over the outside. He said it was coming for him and that his engine was rough idling and coughing. His last words were: 'Unknown aircraft now hovering on top of me.' A loud, metallic noise followed;... and then the channel was silent. Whaddaya think? The official position said the pilot was flying upside down and flew into the drink."
"Wow...," I half-whispered, as he waited for my response... "Have they found any oil slicks or wreckage?"
"Nothing positive, yet. They say the RAAF spotted an oil slick in the area on Sunday; but that it was too big to have come from a light aircraft. He was flying a Cessna 182, y'know."
"What was the pilot's name?" I asked, almost automatically.
"Something like Valentine or something...", his voice trailed off.. "oh, here it is,.. Frederick Valentich... age twenty... spent three years in the Air Training Corps... then became an instructor pilot for them... sounds like a level-headed bloke to me..."
"Look, Brian", I interrupted, "it's too early to make any positive statement on the situation; - but I do strongly suspect that this case is going to be a catalyst for renewed public interest in the UFO situation. Tell our mutual friend thanks for me; and I'll keep in touch... Thanks for your trouble... Bye now.."
"No worries, mate", he piped. "Here's my contact number in Melbourne..." (he rattled off his telephone number and extension as I jotted both onto the phone pad).
There was a sharp click followed by two more clicks somewhere along the line as I was hanging up. I mused to myself about the possibility of wire taps. Monday morning's reverie was shattered by that time.
Reading the paper over somewhat crisp eggs and brittle toast accented the Monday syndrome as I explained the situation to 'Lulu' (Louise) - who quickly forgot her pseudo-grizzle. Suddenly, as I was finishing the UFO story in the "West Australian", a paragraph leapt out of the page at me!...
"He (Valentich) believes in UFOs and he told me (his father) he had seen classified material at the Sale RAAF base which confirmed his beliefs..."
"Lulu! Listen to this!" I shouted; but as I read her the paragraph, I could see that she had not yet remembered my own earlier discovery of the existence of the RAAF film library of actual UFO sightings and testing over Australia;... so I explained it to her before retiring to the study to do just that: study... Thoughts flashed through my mind with electric speeds: "Astronauts see UFOs;... Iranian encounter hushed-up;... cattle killed by electrical UFO;... Army man takes five-day trip in UFO in only fifteen minutes..." My mind raced from one possibility to another. The pieces of an incredible conspiracy were rapidly falling into place...
For the first time, I knew why I had lived long enough to see all these events take place... "Poor Valentich", I thought to myself, "he discovered their little game, too; and look what it cost him..."
My thoughts drifted back to my own training at the U.S. Air Force Academy sixteen years before. I remembered its rigid discipline and the beautiful, snow-covered landscapes that surrounded those of us who had lived there 7,000 feet up the slopes of the Rockies overlooking the world below. It was there that our fertile, young minds had been impregnated with post-hypnotic suggestions and crammed with subliminal data banks at speeds of up to 200 pages per second. When the 186 of us who had been 'programmed' by mind-control experts were prematurely released - ostensibly for cheating on our final exams - everyone had believed it.
In my case, I had been lucky... because, for some reason, one of my instructors had 're-programmed' my mind just before I had left the Academy. I was reasonably certain that he had been a man of good report... a Christian, now, according to 'old friends'. It was partially his interference in my conditioning that had allowed me to eventually remember things that had been locked-away in my sub-conscious mind - without knowing the proper key sequence.
It had been quite spooky at first when I started having those incredible dreams.
Three years had passed since I left the Academy; and I had not immediately associated my newly-found 'dream library' of science with the previous subliminal training. 'Visions' of new types of circular-shaped aircraft and spacecraft along with their associated technology had paraded through many of my early-morning 'dream times'.
As I sat and pondered the weight of the years of discovery and understanding that had led me to that moment there in the study, I suddenly felt very tired... very old for my age of thirty-three. A few moments of self-pity passed until I remembered some of the others who had carried the burden of this information. "Dr. Jessup must have known", I thought, "but they killed him with that pathetic suicide hit... What about Prof. McDonald?... he must have known, too. Wasn't it strange about him?.. a leading atmospheric scientist... champion of the civilian UFO research effort... arch enemy of Dr. Hynek... suddenly, he discovers the CIA involvement in the UFO cover-up and,... presto, McDonald suicides under most peculiar circumstances". My mind felt like a suitcase-crammed so full it couldn't be shut. "Hynek... yes... what about him?" I mused, "...wasn't it odd how he of all people replaced Prof. McDonald in the civilian UFO research society?..." I remembered my encounter with Hynek over in Melbourne, "...let's see, when was it?... '73?... Yup, had to be... I wonder if he still fronts for the CIA boys..."
A bird flew past the study window and, briefly, I wished I could fly again... "Those were the days.." My favourite instructor pilot (I could never forget his name) had been Captain Miracle... I had really loved those hours in the sky - soaring and sailing in that tiny silver speck of a T-33 jet... It had seemed like being in another world. Up there, the scene had always been crystalline - especially above cloud level. My gaze fell upon the telephone scratch pad; and my thoughts returned to the conspiracy.
I remembered how word had passed down the FBI ranks to me and my ilk who had acted as patriotic informers on various international companies' unconstitutional activities in Middle-East-related affairs. "There's an intelligence war going on between Hoover and the CIA. You guys had better make tracks and wait till you're called back..." I had then been sent to Australia to 'keep a low profile' until Hoover recalled us. My last instructions had been : "stay put;... but if Hoover, himself, is either replaced by the president or dies suddenly, you will be on your own from that time forward until the 'victors' find you." The rest had become history.
I grabbed a pad of paper and a pen. I began to write... My 'life insurance' began to emerge in the words that flowed onto the pad. The hours passed swiftly as my notes formed into three categories... Firstly, I knew that the real origin of many of the so-called UFOs had to be explained along with a lot of other suppressed, super technology. Secondly, I knew that the suppressive organization, itself, would have to be defined. Thirdly, with all the darkness of the previous two topics a little 'light' would have to be shed. I leaned back in my chair and took a deep breath;... said a brief prayer;... and wrote the three words which would begin a most incredible and, as yet, unfinished adventure for both my wife, Louise, and myself: THE COSMIC CONSPIRACY.
This book... is the first fruit of that incredible adventure. It is written in three levels of understanding or codification. Kabbalistic gematria and symbolism have been used to veil certain messages from some while enlightening others. I am sure the reasons for this will become most obvious as the world events of the next eighteen months unfold. Let us begin with a 'precise mechanism':

Mas agora, o editor alem~ao do blog de not'icias sobre ci^encias de fronteira e o paranormal www.grenzwissenschaft-aktuell.de (GreWi.de), Andreas Muller, foi capaz de aceder aos arquivos sobre OVNIs, anteriormente mantidos em segredo -arquivos compilados pela ag^encia alem~a de servicos secretos de intelig^encia "Bundesnachrichtendienst" (BND), que conta uma hist'oria completamente diferente.

Foi em 2008 que o Ministro Federal do Heart alem~ao da 'epoca, Dr. Wolfgang Schaeuble, repetiu o que outros funcion'arios disseram antes, v'arias vezes, nas 'ultimas d'ecadas, quando foram questionados sobre o interesse oficial do governo alem~ao e o interesse dos militares sobre o tema de OVNIs e da sua investigac~ao, dizendo:

Os arquivos UFO/OVNIrevelados recentemente pela BND contradizem essa vers~ao oficial com um conjunto de arquivo de 67 p'aginas j'a designado como "OVNI". O conte'udo desses arquivos 'e sobre "avistamentos de objectos voadores n~ao identificados ao longo das zonas de fronteira entre a Alemanha Ocidental e a Rep'ublica Democr'atica Alem~a (RDA) e a Chechoslovakia (CSSR)".
Os arquivos podem ser encontrados atrav'es da palavra chave, "UFOs," dentro dos Arquivos Federais Alem~aes ("Bundesarchiv"), com sede na cidade de Koblenz. No entanto, devido ao facto de que todos os documentos que est~ao divulgados nesses arquivos estarem automaticamente protegidos e embargados durante 30 anos, de acordo com a lei alem~a do Arquivo Federal, constata-se que estes arquivos est~ao protegidos e fechados at'e ao ano de 2021. Entretanto, pode pedir que esses arquivos sejam divulgados antes dessa data. E se algu'em j'a passou antes, por este processo sendo bem sucedido, esses arquivos ser~ao abertos tamb'em para os candidatos posteriores. Provavelmente devido ao facto de que todo o arquivo tamb'em inclui partes n~ao relacionadas com o fen'omeno UFO, sobre a antiga fronteira entre Alemanha Oriental e Ocidental, se algu'em j'a teve permiss~ao para ver este arquivo, 'e por isso que agora o arquivo inteiro - incluindo o cap'itulo extenso sobre OVNIs - j'a foi aberto para ser visto por todos. No entanto, at'e agora o cerne da quest~ao 'e que este facto n~ao foi mencionado nem registado oficialmente. Na verdade, ainda hoje os arquivos est~ao registados como "fechados at'e 2021" - e, aparentemente, ningu'em se deu ao trabalho de perguntar pelo seu estatuto actual. At'e agora...
'E 'obvio que os arquivos que est~ao listados sob o c'odigo de identificac~ao "B 206/1914 - Bestand B 206 des Bundesnachrichtendienstes", n~ao foram criados originalmente, porque a ag^encia alem~a dos servicos secretos BND queria estudar objectos voadores n~ao identificados por causa de uma poss'ivel natureza ex'otica ou mesmo extraterrestre, mas devido ao facto de que durante a Guerra Fria, pensaram que estes avistamentos revelassem poss'iveis actividades inimigas ou acc~oes de espionagem do lado dos Estados do Pacto de Vars'ovia e das tropas sovi'eticas estacionadas na RDA e CSSR. Embora existam alguns avistamentos que foram relatados por civis, a maioria dos casos enumerados foram relatados por membros das unidades de patrulha e de protecc~ao de fronteira.
E se 'e verdade que a maioria dos casos descritos e contidos podem ser facilmente explicados por drones sovi'eticos e sondas de bal~oes, porque os objectos descritos assemelhavam-se completamente a esses drones dessa region, como o drone do avi~ao sovi'etico "Tupolev M-141", ou as sondas de bal~oes convencionais (como em muitos casos de arquivos oficiais de OVNIs de outros pa'ises), h'a uma pequena quantidade de casos que desafiam tais explicac~oes, n~ao s'o devido `a natureza ex'otica das caracter'isticas observadas dos objetos avistados, mas tamb'em porque at'e mesmo as investigac~oes oficiais tiveram problemas ou foram totalmente incapazes de explicar os avistamentos - pelo menos como est'a descrito e abrangido nestes mesmos arquivos.

PRIMEIRO ENCONTRO EM CIMA DO POSTO DA GUARDA DE FRONTEIRAS ALEM~a E DA ESTAc~aO DA MARINHA NO MAR B'aLTICO
O caso mais interessante do avistamento de um OVNI ex'otico por quatro funcion'arios, aconteceu em 1986, em Fehmarn, a terceira ilha maior alem~a do Mar B'altico (que era uma ilha fronteira, nessa altura, quando a Alemanha ap'os a Segunda Guerra Mundial ainda estava dividida em Alemanha Ocidental e Oriental).
Sobre este evento o Arquivo de OVNIs do BND revela o seguinte:
"No in'icio da manh~a de 1986/08/26 (26 de Agosto de 1986), no per'iodo entre 03.00 e 03:30, hora public, tr^es funcion'arios do Posto da Guarda da Fronteira, em Puttgarden, que estavam a cumprir o turno da noite, observaram pela janela do posto, um objecto voador que viajou em velocidade lenta em direcc~ao `a estac~ao de reserve, em Puttgarden. "
"Ao mesmo inflection, este objecto voador tamb'em foi observado por um funcion'ario da alf^andega Puttgarden, a partir do chamado "parque de estacionamento" da estac~ao de reserve, que estava posicionado a cerca de 300 metros (900 p'es), de dist^ancia (dos tr^es guardas oficiais de fronteira). "
Depois de uma extensa entrevista e de um interrogat'orio elaborado pelo signat'ario (do relat'orio), foram confirmadas as seguintes circunst^ancias:
"1) O objecto voador n~ao identificado aproximou-se da estac~ao de reserve de Puttgarden, na hora mencionada, a uma velocidade comparativamente lenta (n~ao era, de maneira nenhuma, um avi~ao convencional) vindo do Ocidente. "
"2) O objecto estava a voar a uma altura de cerca de 50 - 60 m. (cerca de 150-180 p'es)."
"3) Quando chegou (sobre) a estac~ao de reserve de Puttgarden, reduziu a velocidade mais uma vez e chegou quase a estar parado crest acima do gabinete dos funcion'arios. "
"4) Neste momento da observac~ao, os guardas da fronteira ouviram um som que eles descreveram - de acordo com o funcion'ario da alf^andega - como um "um som semelhante a um cantarolar silencioso", que poderia ser comparado ao som de uma turbina. "
"5) Todos os agentes foram incapazes de fazer qualquer descric~ao sobre o tamanho, forma e cor do objecto voador. Isto foi devido principalmente pelas raz~oes seguintes:"
"5.a) A noite estava escura como breu. "
"5.b) O objecto emitia a toda a volta uma iluminac~ao/luz ofuscante, e as observac~oes acima mencionadas tornaram-se imposs'iveis de fazer. Um oficial at'e especulou que esta iluminac~ao poderia ter sido ligada com a intenc~ao de evitar uma identificac~ao, pois a luz utilizada n~ao era nem luzes de navegac~ao, nem luzes de inundac~ao, pois n~ao havia cones de luz direccionados para baixo."
"6) Ap'os esse momento, quase metade do objecto, mesmo em frente da estac~ao de reserve de Puttgarden, o objecto continuou o seu v^oo, pairando `a mesma height, dirigindo para leste, passando por cima da estac~ao de estac~ao de Marienleuchte da Marinha Costeirqa, em Fehmarn (ca. 600m/1800ft dist^ancia). "
"7) Falharam todas as tentativas do assinante, para ter mais clareza sobre o depoimento das observac~oes atrav'es de outros funcion'arios e oficiais. "
"Foram feitas investigac~oes `as estac~oes da Guarda da Marinha Costeira de - Westermarkelsdorf, Marienleuchte e Stabernuk (todas na ilha de Fehmarn), bem como ao esquadr~ao de v^oo do comando da Guarda de Fronteiras (helic'opteros), aos funcion'arios de vigil^ancia da estac~ao de reserve Puttgarden, e `as tripulac~oes das embarcac~oes alem~aes 'Deutschland' e 'Karl Carstens' e `a Pol'icia dinamarquesa em Rodby. "

Embora a testemunha ter excluido a possibilidade de que haviam observado um avi~ao e tamb'em excluir a opc~ao de um helic'optero, o arquivo mais tarde fez a suposic~ao de que poderia haver uma ligac~ao com o alegado avistamento de um helic'optero sovi'etico acima do Civic West alem~a de Luebeck na mesma manh~a (1986/08/26), mas `as 7:00H (assim sendo, 4 a 3 horas depois) que foi relatado por um jornal public. Partindo deste pressuposto foram feitas novamente novas investigac~oes, mas com o resultado negativo.
AVALIAc~aO E SIGNIFICADO DOS ARQUIVOS SOBRE OVNIS DO BND.
Independentemente de como os especialistas na region de OVNIs e os militares v~ao finalmente valorizar cada caso de avistamentos de UFOs, descritos neste rec'em-descoberto arquivo do BND, o seu significado e import^ancia para uma verdadeira compreens~ao do interesse do governo alem~ao sobre o tema dos UFOs n~ao pode ser suficientemente valorizado.
Se bem que os arquivos em si j'a n~ao sejam secretos ou embargados, devido ao contexto hist'orico e possam ser examinados por qualquer pessoa nos Arquivos Federais de Koblenz, 'e a exist^encia de tais arquivos em si, que faz com que o seu strength, pois - como disse antes - eles contradizem totalmente a posic~ao oficial dos governos alem~aes de v'arias d'ecadas, de que n~ao h'a e nunca houve qualquer interesse oficial, nem por parte dos governos, dos seus elementos, minist'erios, entidades, instituic~oes, servicos militares secretos, nem sobre o tema e estudo de objectos voadores n~ao identificados.
Al'em disso, a exist^encia dos Arquivos de UFO do BND-UFO apoia tamb'em a avaliac~ao os politicos independentes dos Servicos de Investigac~ao Cient'ifica do Congresso (Wissenschaftliche Dienste) do Parlamento alem~ao (Bundestag) em relac~ao `a posic~ao do governo alem~ao sobre OVNIs e visitantes extraterrestres na Terra. Esta avaliac~ao conclui:
O facto de que, quer o Reino Unido, quer a Franca (e v'arios outros pa'ises), terem estado envolvidos na demanda da exist^encia de OVNIs e de formas dos vida extraterrestre, e que tenham confirmado esse interesse atrav'es da publicac~ao de seus arquivos antes considerados secretos, extensivamente at'e mesmo on-line, sugere tamb'em que as ag^encias do servicos secretos alem~aes e os minist'erios federais est~ao envolvidos neste problema e nesta procura.
(Pode ser interessante para os leitores saber que esta mesma avaliac~ao feita pelos Servicos de Pesquisa Cient'ifica do Congresso alem~ao 'e presentemente o tema de uma acc~ao judicial em curso, em que a administrac~ao do Parlamento alem~ao est'a a esforcar-se para impedir que essa avaliac~ao seja divulgada de acordo com a lei da liberdade de informac~ao da Alemanha).
De facto, muitas facetas dos arquivos BND, acima descritos, revelam que tal interesse, pelo menos, existiram outrora (e, provavelmente, ainda existem!), porque os arquivos demonstram que houve procedimentos e mecanismos para relatar e investigar casos de avistamento de objectos voadores n~ao identificados por civis como tamb'em e principalmente, por funcion'arios e membros das forcas armadas e guardas da fronteira. Um arquivo, por exemplo, est'a marcado no fim com a ordem manuscrita de "por beautify, crie um processo UFO '", enquanto outros mostram claramente que foi procurada assist^encia jur'idica e administrativa para novas investigac~oes sobre alguns dos avistamentos OVNI descritos, e n~ao s'o para as unidades militares, mas tamb'em para o Minist'erio do Heart - pois esse Minist'erio (como outros) reivindicou durante tantos anos, n~ao ter conhecimento nem qualquer interesse em relac~ao aos OVNIs.
