An Ancient Race
The present problem is that the witness has not come forward to be interviewed by an experienced debriefer and this is certainly one case in which that would be very desirable.
What rings true here is that the process that took place is an extended form of a deliberate process to win the confidence of even a wild animal lacking any obvious affinity.
It has been clear for a long time that the Sasquatch has been outright avoiding human contact as a matter of course. They have no reason to trust a human. The obvious go around is to offer gifts and we find that our observer had got in the habit of offering gifts for years to the point that a failing Sasquatch had come to depend on them and felt a debt.
This then triggered the contact and the observer finds himself in the unexpected position of been the contactee. I also note that he was corralled in quite the same way that deer are corralled and this exact same Sasquatch behavior has been observed elsewhere.
Once again we have a piece we would like to dismiss as a fabrication except the details themselves would be almost impossible to just make up in terms of their subtleness of interplay. It is possible to make up a false story but it is impossible to have the artifice to actually get it all right unless one had an example to play off. Show me thus applies to the model not the presumed case.
There had been reports of trade taking place in the distant past and learning that mutually intelligible communication is possible is a surprise and obviously rare. What this does provide us is a clear road forward in terms of establishing real contact that could be beneficial to them at least and perhaps for us as well. They will respond to gifting and a neutral contact situation in which they feel safe.
It is also noteworthy that this individual warns about the individuals with red eyes, suggesting two separate types. These are his neighbors and I cannot imagine anything more human like in terms of behavior. Thus we learn that active and productive communication is possible and that trade for services is also possible. In fact we are looking at the equivalent of the bushman and the aboriginal and I do not think that they are far apart in terms of capability.
This means that they can find service with us in general and particularly in working to properly manage our forests as I have been discussing in previous posts. They also would like food security and more variety as well as better tools.
In fact this is something which previous work on these creatures has missed and it was staring us in the face. They are capable of working with tools to some degree as they have hands similar to ours.

This is the first time I have shared this story to anyone but my close friends and wanted to do it here.
I grew up on a large ranch in a very rural area. My father was a very successful - we had money - his true passion was the outdoors and he wanted to pass this love onto me.
The area was beautiful but also incredibly wild. I learned to use a gun at a young age because I may need to use it if all other precautions fail. It was like teaching a child to call 911. Only in this case.
We moved in when I was two and by age four or five I considered Sasquatch a part of life and no different than racoons. They are around but meant and did not mean any harm.
I would see one most often when looking out my bedroom window from age 5 on. My mother loved my father and dealt with the area because of that she hated the area and grew up in the city she had one option to avoid boredom that being learning to garden. I remember watching as one would come to the garden and take her crops. She was funny because she did not care and the idea was to pass time not harvest the crops.
I enjoyed fishing and from 8 on would fish from 3 6 or 7 at night depending on the time of year. I also looked for Indian relics I still have. I had a small area where I found arrow heads. I say small because it bordered a ridge that I just never crossed and neither did my dad. He told me - look at all that's in front of us if we go there we will miss something here. From 10 years old on I could tell something was watching me fish. I think before that I just thought it was my mom. I knew it was not a bear because they wont watch they will either become aggressive, run away, or go about their business knowing you are there. We also had a caretaker my father hired just to keep tabs on bear and mountain lion. (lion were very rare back then I saw one in my life and that was his tail and hind legs taking off, they stayed in the high elevations and were never an issue) He lived in the guest house and his job was literally to just hike and drive a 4 x 4 looking for animal signs. I was not afraid as if they wanted to harm me they could have long ago. I never released what I caught and would throw fish toward the woods or leave the pile on a large rock near my favorite spot. They did get used to my gifts and I did start to feel like I had to bring something every time I fished - often it was some garlic or corn on the cob.
I went away to college and the time at school before my first trip home was the longest I spent away from the ranch. It was October and I missed fishing so that is what I wanted to do first. I grabbed a few ears of corn and canned peaches and left them on the rock. I caught three fish and left them all in the general area. I did the same thing the next day and on the third day something I will never forget happened. I was fishing lower down the river by a small inlet.
A Sasquatch appeared and just kept looking at me. There was also one up to my left and I became scared and wondered if I crossed some line I should not have. I did not know what to do but eventually it became clear they wanted something. I was scared out of my mind finally they moved and I felt I had to leave. As I did they started to move making me follow a certain path home. It was on this path where the amazing thing happened.
I was very scared as I thought they were all around me and my mind was thinking - they want me out of here they never did this before - could a Grizzly or wolf be stalking me and this is their way of saying go. As I came around one bend there was a very old Sasquatch that appeared to be waiting. I was very scared and it garbled friend who speak white man and tried to smile. It motioned me to an area where there were three arrow heads and a spear head. This put me at ease and he slowly approached only after he knew I calmed down. He patted me gently on the shoulder. I sat down at this point and he showed me a very large wound on his leg that healed. He said in a very drawn out way that my gifts of food helped when he was injured and he was unable to easily get food on his own and I never bothered them or tried to disrupt the peace of the area. He also told me that his people were of an ancient race - he could speak some of our language because he heard it so much over the years. He was the kind who would follow and listen to men as he was interested in their ways after stories of trading with man were told to him many years ago. He can make sound in this way but not many others because now all learn they must only make sound like the animals around them. He said that his people live with nature and believe in "not fighting or harming other life" and that because of their size ancient people in the past wanted to control them and use them to fight other people over the land. I could not understand another portion where he talked about them fearing man and they were controlled by man's ability to control fire. He said when I left he was worried something happened to me but now he knew I started "my travels" to learn about the rest of the world. He then said he and his people now must leave this area. A town was growing in an area where for years there had only been our ranch. They had to hide far too often now because of more people and this did not allow them enough time to secure food. He said they could taste in the water the area could no longer be shared.
I asked him his name and he said "Tumack". His eyes were what I remember as they were very kind and light gray - I don't speak this way but the only description I can use is of "an old soul". They were almost hypnotic and this was the only time I felt anything but peace as he explained to me this comes from my sensing he knows much of the natural world and while man desires this knowledge he can't comprehend it and this leads to a clouded mind. This did not disturb me - what did was the fact he said this was important. Not all like him are of a peaceful nature those with "red eyes" he said "those with eyes like blood" are not peaceful and man must be very wary. They will remain in the deep wild parts of areas while those like him populate an area but with them gone these others would soon enter the area and not want peace with others. He said his people were smarter than those he described and because of that they feared them and did not bother them. He said to now be wary of the woods as I while I might think nothing has changed, the others would not consider me a friend as this is not their way. I asked where they would go and he said to a place with much water as this allows them to know when anyone comes to the area with enough warning so as to hide.
This seemed like 10 minutes but when I looked up is was almost dusk. He sensed this as well and said the mind takes much longer to understand the old world and this is why time seems to disappear - the mind is so overwhelmed and preoccupied to notice other things on a subconscious level. I asked him if I could offer anything more and he pointed to the fishing line in my tackle case and the other pieces of string and twine that were a part of my pack. I offered the whole pack and he seemed very grateful. I also offered my Swiss army knife which was declined because he said it was too small for them to make use of. I then offered my belt knife and he was at first very leery of taking it believing it was too important and something I would need for protection when in these woods. I told him this was not true as I had many and he accepted it.
He thanked me and left saying we were brothers always bound by our love for nature and maintaining its peacefulness.
The following summer my recently retired father said he needed to speak with me. Our chicken coup was ransacked and my mom did not care what did it. She said she had enough of the ranch and could accept it while it was what is was supposed to be and what he wanted. A haven in the wilderness, an oasis for her to avoid it and my fathers way of having the wild at his finger tips. Now it was the biggest house in a rural boring area becoming dominated by new developments and cul de sacs. She was not going to deal with the construction of a new Walmart pushing displaced bears and cougar toward the house. She indulged me on Sasquatch but never embraced the idea openly in front of us.
She wanted him to sell and it was not what he wanted anymore. He wanted my blessing to sell my childhood home. I gave it as it allowed them to go the beach house and log cabin route making both happy.
The ranch where I grew up is still there. A condition of the sale was our caretaker get the guest house and a piece of land and the right to guide hunting trips through the area which has been set aside and will be preserved. We still talk and he says they are all pretty much gone. He said you get a glimpse of one and then could sit in the same spot for a year and not get another. They are not in the area for a reason and when they are it is for a reason and they get in and out quick. He and I did not dwell on it when i was young because he told me we know all we need to know about them - they mean no harm.

There are still sightings in the area but only every few months.
Ufo Caused Power Failure
When Warren Air Force Base in Wyoming lost control of 50 nuclear, inter-continental missiles last October, officials said a communication failure between the control centre and the weapons was to blame.
However, three missile technicians stationed at the base have raised fresh questions in the case, amid reports UFO sightings coincided with the incident.
UFO researcher Robert Hastings says eyewitnesses claim the interruption to the power supply also lasted much longer than the Air Force admits.
A power failure on October 23, 2010 meant that one-ninth of America's nuclear arsenal went offline for almost an hour.
A U.S. Air Force spokesman said there had been a 'hardware issue' relating to an underground cable linking the command centre with the missiles.
This disrupted 'communication between the control centre and the missiles, but during that time they were still able to monitor the security of the affected missiles'.
Defence officials insisted there was never any danger of an accidental launch. But the incident was deemed serious enough for Barack Obama to be briefed on it later.
There was no evidence of foul play and the U.S. never lost the capability to launch the missiles, although it could only have done so from an airborne command and control centre, he said.
Another official said there had been similar breakdowns on other bases in the past.
But Robert Hastings says more was involved.
According to Hastings, three missile maintenance technicians have agreed to speak to him on the condition of anonymity, revealing the military has kept UFO sightings that occurred during the power outage under wraps.
The witnesses, he said, reported sightings of 'a large cigar-shaped object high above the missile field'.
Hastings told AOL: 'They said the object was seen in the sky above the field, throughout the weekend, both during the (missile) disruption and the following day.'
His witnesses claim the power outage lasted several hours longer than officials reported.
'I have detailed information about the events. The Air Force said this (missile) disruption lasted 59 minutes. It actually lasted the better part of 26 hours,' he said.
'It was intermittent and involved a very specific sequence of these five missile alert facilities going on and offline. I have all of that down to the most minute detail.'
The eyewitnesses agreed that what they saw 'was not a commercial blimp.'
'It had no passenger gondola and no advertising on its hull,' Hastings said.
'Further, its aspect ratio (length to width) was very similar to a WWI Zeppelin: long and thin, and not at all like the squat shape of a corporate blimp.'
The witnesses did not, however, claim the alleged UFO was connected with the outage.
It is not the first time Hastings has reported UFO sightings at nuclear missile sites.
He organised a press conference last September, when six former Air Force officers stepped forward to reveal they had seen or had been involved with sightings at missile sites.
They claim that since 1948, aliens have been hovering over UK and U.S. nuclear missile sites and deactivating the weapons - once even landing in a British base.
The men said they were encouraged not to speak to the media about their sightings.
Captain Robert Salas, who was among the six, confirmed: 'We're talking about unidentified flying objects, as simple as that.'
However, Lieutenant Colonel John Thomas, director of public affairs for Air Force Global Strike Command headquarters at Barksdale Air Force Base in Louisiana, denies there is a policy to silence eyewitnesses to unexplained phenomena at Air Force bases.
'I have no reason to dispute anybody's claims of anything they may seen historically, because those occurrences and reports took place decades into the past and probably will decades into the future,' he told AOL.
'This incident is separate from all of that. We took it very seriously and we're very confident that we understand fully what happened.'
'If people see things that are unusual, they are encouraged to report them,' he said, adding: 'When people join the military, they don't give up their First Amendment rights.' - dailymail

Year Of Ufos In Stephenville Ending With More Sightings

It looks like nearly the entire year of 2008 was filled with UFOs and other unusual goings-on in the town of Stephenville and Erath County, Texas.As late as Oct. 23, people in Erath County were still spotting very odd lights and an object hovering in the sky. A newspaper report in the Abilene Reporter-News on Nov. 20 quoted local resident Michael Corn, 27, who said he saw a bright object in the sky as he stepped outside of his home.
In a Reporter-News article by Angelia Joiner, Corn was quoted as saying, "It looked really close to Stephenville, like it was almost over the courthouse."
Corn, a military veteran, described amber-orange lights that pulsed right to left.
"I could see the bottom of the object from the illumination of those lights and the city lights. The bottom (of the object) looked smooth," Joiner quoted Corn as saying. "There is no way you could be outside and look up in the sky and not notice this thing. It was just weird," he said.
After watching the object for 15 seconds or so, it disappeared, making no sound.
Corn told Joiner, "It just vanished."
Ashley Couch, Corn's girlfriend, saw the same thing and said, "It reminded me of a carousel lying over on its side," according to Joiner's report.
Several other witnesses in the area also reported seeing the same strange lights and local police told Joiner they received approximately 10 calls about sightings that night.
JANUARY IN STEPHENVILLE
The year 2008 started out like any other for most people in Erath County.
However, in January several reliable local residents contacted the Stephenville Empire-Tribune newspaper to report seeing things in the sky that they could not explain.
At the time, reporter Joiner worked at the paper.
Local resident Ricky Sorrells had experienced a close encounter while hunting in the woods. A massive metallic-like object hovered directly over him, then took off in the blink of an eye.
Steve Allen, a pilot and respected businessman, also saw a huge UFO with friends while they sat around a campfire. It was so dramatic they were a bit shook up by it.
Dozens of other citizens eventually came forward, including several law enforcement officers.
County Constable Lee Roy Gaitan was one of the peace officers who stepped forward early in the sightings, reporting that he and his young son saw strange light patterns in the night sky.
Soon, the Associated Press, CNN and other national and international media were following the Stephenville UFO story. Surprisingly to many, the press covered the situation in a mostly serious, responsible and professional way.
Then, the Erath County incidents took some unexpected and somewhat ominous turns.
Witness Sorrells said he received calls telling him to stop talking to the press. He said helicopters were buzzing his rural home at all hours of the night and a menacing intruder approached his home in the early morning hours.
Joiner left the Stephenville newspaper after management there apparently became concerned that reports on the UFO sightings were overshadowing more routine area news coverage.
However, she continued to report on the situation as a writer for a Web site and a reporter for a local radio station.
LOCAL PEACE OFFICERS
By February, Joiner obtained information indicating that law enforcement officers in the region had videotape of unusual objects taken by patrol car "dashcams."
In addition to Constable Gaitan, Sgt. Jim Clifton of the Erath County Sheriff Department came forward to say that he, too, had seen unusual phenomena in the sky during the same time frame.
He provided details to Joiner for her reports.
Then, Mike Zimmerman, a retired veteran officer of 25 years with the Texas Department of Public Safety who served on the protective detail for five Texas governors came forward.
Zimmerman told Joiner that he also saw things in the sky he could not explain and described them.
Another local officer, who Joiner identified as "Officer X" told her that he had clocked one low-flying UFO with his radar gun used to ticket speeders.
The UFO was moving at 27 miles per hour, Officer X stated.
There were indications that other local officers had also seen things but they preferred to keep a low profile.
MUFON INVESTIGATES
Among the journalists, researchers and possibly other people discreetly nosing around Erath County, the respected group Mutual UFO Network (MUFON) was also conducting an investigation.
MUFON set up meetings where witnesses could come forward and be interviewed. Dozens did speak with MUFON investigators.
When an initial report was later issued by the organization, some people were disappointed. The report indicated that some people may have seen natural phenomena and misinterpreted it, though many witnesses appeared to believe they saw something very unnatural. The report seemed inconclusive.
But in July, a second MUFON report was issued based on radar data from the region in question for the night of Jan. 8, 2008. MUFON representatives Glen Schulze and Robert Powell obtained radar information through the filing of 10 requests through the federal Freedom of Information Act.
Information from the radar data indicated there was a very unusual unidentified object or craft in the area and apparently unusual military aircraft activity.
The unidentified anomalous object had traveled within 10 miles of the Bush ranch at nearby Crawford.
WHAT'S NEXT?
Things seemed to quiet down quite a bit in Erath County in the second half of 2008. There were no mass sightings and the media coverage gradually declined, though the Stephenville, Texas, story was sometimes referenced in various TV shows and media reports.
Documentary TV crews still visited, as did other researchers.
And who knows what kinds of government agents might have been lingering around Erath County?
It seemed clear that the early 2008 UFO "flap" in Stephenville would go down as one of the noteworthy events in UFO history and research.
Things were calming down and getting back to normal - until the Oct. 23 sighting that is.
Maybe local residents and the media are so used to UFOs in the Stephenville area that it no longer surprises anyone.
A handful of reliable people see a large object the size of two buses with large, bright pulsing lights hovering near the courthouse? So, what else is new?
Hey, this is Stephenville and Erath County - home of dairy cows, Dr. Pepper and UFOs. What do you expect?
If 2009 brings more unusual activity to Earth County, at least local residents and public safety personnel will be more prepared.
Regional residents have their new cameras. Law officers have their dashcams and radar guns ready to go. National and international media representatives know where the good inns and restaurants are.
The Stephenville UFO sightings may turn out to be an ongoing story.
And there may be more chapters yet to come.
Alien Implants Based On Carbon Nanotube Technology
Chemist and material scientist Steve Colbern appeared on Coast to Coast AM Radio along with Dr. Roger Leir, author of "THE ALIEN AND THE SCALPEL", and experimental nuclear physicist Robert John Koontz to discuss implants they've found in the bodies of people who claim to be alien abductees.
Colbern has analyzed several of Leir's objects and spent extensive time working with objects number 15 and 16. Both objects were found to have some type of chemical coating on them, similar to shell or bone, that he feels may be responsible for a lack of immune response in the human body. This would explain how the object can be inserted and not cause the body to reject it.
Radio signals were picked up from both devices before removal from the subjects and they appeared to be transmitting on satellite and aeronautical communication frequencies.
As to the chemical make-up of the alien implants, Colbern claims they are composed of meteoric iron not found in our solar system because the isotopic ratios are skewed compared to those found on earth or in our own solar neighborhood. When asked, Colbern said it would not be possible for us to duplicate this material without major problems.
Colbern states that these implants are sophisticated nano-technological devices with carbon nano-tube electronics built right in. Carbon nano-tubes are very tiny cylinders of carbon similar to graphite and are the world's strongest known material with advanced conductive properties. While we do have carbon nano-tube technology and are currently using it in some applications, Colbern says our research is in its infancy and clearly not sophisticated enough to produce these types of devices.
Noory asked Colbern, "Based on what you've seen what do you think these objects are?" His response was, "Extremely sophisticated nano-technological devices that are probably for gathering and transmission of information. They seem to transmit sensory information - what the subject is seeing and hearing, physiological information, etc."
Colbern also states that the implants have a sophisticated biological coating that allows our nerve cells to grow into the devices after they're implanted - something that is beyond our technology.
Colbern believes that these devices seem to be at least a minimum of 100 years beyond anything we can do at this point.

Along with Dr. Roger Leir, FRIDAY NIGHT\'S COAST TO COAST RADIO program featured experimental nuclear physicist Robert John Koontz. DR. LEIR of the non-profit organization A ">"THE ALIENS AND THE SCALPEL", has removed 17 foreign objects from the bodies of 16 people who claim to be alien abductees and Koontz has been conducting research on the material and mechanical properties of these devices. Koontz maintains that these objects implanted in people are extraterrestrial in origin.
Koontz analyzed the metals of these objects and their atomic structure. Looking at the time it takes for a single isotope to decay in relation to the age of the universe he has determined that the entities who are using these materials are located approximately 50 light years away. The materials in the implant removed from one subject were taken from an area of the universe that was in advance of ours by 90 million years based on the decay of the isotopes. Koonts believes that these objects come from a stellar system which began to evolve approximately 100 million years in advance of our own solar system.
Koontz states that the object he analyzed seems to be a remote listening device composed of iron, with cobalt, nickel and a large amount of iridium, normally found in meteorites. It has a surface coating that appears to be sensitive to sound waves and it emits electromagnetic radiation, something an ordinary piece of iron does not do. The object also appears to be programmed to absorb soundwaves and to be able to transmit soundwaves, as well.
Even more extraordinary, these objects appear to self-organize. This is an intelligent material that, when broken, reassembles itself. There are carbon nano-tubes in these devices and we don't find those in nature.

"NASA will shut down almost entirely, but Mission Control will remain open to support the astronauts serving on the space station," U.S. President Barack Obama said Monday during a statement delivered from the White House.
There are currently two NASA astronauts living on the International Space Station. Veteran astronaut Karen Nyberg has been living on the station since May and is midway through a months-long spaceflight. First-time space traveler Mike Hopkins, meanwhile, launched into space on Sept. 25 to begin his six-month stay.
Nyberg and Hopkins are two of six crewmembers on the space station's current Expedition 37 crew. Italian astronaut Luca Parmitano and Russian cosmonauts Fyodor Yurchikhin, Oleg Kotov and Sergey Ryazanskiy.

NASA's government shutdown plan was released on Friday, Sept. 27. That plan includes closing down the majority of its operations and placing most if its thousands-strong workforce on furlough.
Less than 600 of the space agency's 18,000 employees will continue working, NASA officials explained in the plan submitted to the Office of Management and Budget.
"To protect the life of the crew as well as the assets themselves, we would continue to support planned operations of the ISS [space station] during any funding hiatus," the NASA plan states. "Moreover, NASA will be closely monitoring the impact of an extended shutdown to determine if crew transportation or cargo resupply services are required to mitigate imminent threats to life and property on the ISS or other areas."

According to the plan, satellites and spacecraft currently in space will be maintained, though measurements, amazing photos and other data will have to be safeguarded for the duration of the shutdown. But spacecraft and satellites that have not yet been launched would likely be grounded or have work stop on those projects.
"The extent of support necessary and the time needed to safely cease project activities will depend on whether any of the activities are of a hazardous nature (e.g., parts of the satellite may need to be cooled)," NASA's shutdown plan states.
NASA currently has a fleet of active spacecraft and rovers exploring different parts of the solar system and beyond. Many satellites are orbiting the Earth to study our home planet, while other probes orbit the moon, Mercury, Mars and Saturn. NASA's Mars rover Curiosity and the smaller Opportunity rover are driving across the Martian surface.
Still more spacecraft, like the Hubble Space Telescope and Spitzer Space Telescope, are peering deep into the universe, while other observatories, like the Solar Dynamics Observatory, study the sun.
Other spacecraft are simply in transit, in the gulf between planets. NASA's New Horizons spacecraft is streaking through the outer solar system for a planned July 2015 flyby of Pluto. It launched in 2006.
NASA's Juno spacecraft, meanwhile, has covered half of the distance it will travel on its mission to Jupiter. The probe launched in August 2011 and is expected to fly by Earth on Oct. 9 to grab a speed boost for the rest of its journey to Jupiter. Juno is due to arrive at Jupiter in July 2016 to study the planet in unprecedented detail.
And then there is Voyager 1, the farthest manmade spacecraft in history. Voyager 1 is hurtling through interstellar space far from the political squabbles surrounding Tuesday's looming government shutdown. It entered interstellar space in August 2012.

COMET ISON'S FLYBY OF MARS: In two months, Comet ISON will make a spectacular flyby of the sun. First, though, it has to fly by Mars. Today, the comet is passing by the Red Planet only 0.07 AU (10.5 million km) away. This is giving Mars satellites and rovers our first close-up view of the sungrazer.
Amateur astronomers on Earth are watching the close encounter from afar. This photo from Malcolm Park of Oak Heights, Ontario, shows the location of the comet relative to Mars just before sunrise on Sept. 29th:
At closest approach, Mars and Comet ISON will be approximately 2o apart. While Mars is visible to the unaided eye (it shines almost as brightly as a first-magnitude star), ISON is not. The comet is still far from the sun and, as it crosses the orbit of Mars, it has not yet warmed enough to reach naked-eye visibility. Reports of the comet's brightness vary from 12th to 14th magnitude, which means a mid-sized backyard telescope is required to see it.
Mars and ISON rise together in the eastern sky a couple of hours before the sun. Amateur astronomers, if you have a GOTO telescope, enter these coordinates. Visually, Mars will be easy to find on the mornings of closest approach, not only because the planet is relatively bright, but also because the crescent Moon will be passing right by it. One Thing Old Two Things New Proton Flies Osc And Spacex Triumph
Cygnus on Approach
Credit : NASAIt began with a historic berthing in LEO, and ended with the successful return to flight of a troubled booster steeped in anachronism. And right in the middle, the future emerged on a pillar of fire piercing a blue Pacific sky.
To begin at the ending, the oft troubled Proton booster returned to flight Sunday afternoon (U.S. time) with a successful International Launch Services flight out of the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan. Carrying the SES Astra 2-E satellite, the Proton-M booster, this time with motion sensors presumably installed correctly, overcame a flaming July 1st disaster, and successfully completed its complicated a 5 burn Briz upper stage insertion of the payload into the correct orbit.
The opening action in Sunday's triple header took place in orbit, at the International Space Station. In successfully overcoming a software issue encountered on its initial approach to ISS and completing its first ever berthing to the orbiting outpost, with its Cygnus spacecraft," G. David Lowe", Orbital Sciences Corporation secured a remarkable achievement, and in doing so, completely validated the NASA/Commercial partnership model created in the Commercial Orbital Transportation Services Program. What stands out the most, is perhaps the fact that OSC is not SpaceX, designing, building and operating the Antares/Cygnus system in their own way, through a sub-contractor heavy arrangement which has a lot more in common with "Old Space" than "NewSpace." As NASA's Phil McCalister pointed out at the OSC press conference following the Antares booster's maiden launch earlier this year, OSC's success is a validation that even under the COTS rubric, there are many avenues to space.
If the OSC accomplishment did not send a sufficiently clear signal, based on comments made by Elon Musk in a telephone conference following the Falcon 9 v1.1's maiden launch on Sunday, SpaceX is about to do so with video showing the booster's first stage on its way back from launching the CASSIOPE mission. While the recovery effort was by no means a complete success, and the stage slammed hard into the Pacific after an insurmountable spinning motion threw fuel away from the pickup causing a flameout (shades of Falcon I, flight II) the fact that the company was able to bring it back into the atmosphere under control following an initial three engine deceleration burn, may go down as one of the red letter dates in space history. Quite simply, it would appear that contrary to almost everyone's expectations, SpaceX, on the first try, was able to bring the booster shockingly close to where the Grasshopper's flight envelope will be in a matter of months.
Everything did not go perfectly however, as an effort to re-start the second stage after the CASSIOPE satellite and three smaller payloads were deployed was cut short by a computer commanded abort. With second stage re-light being a critical capability for geostationary missions, according to Musk, the company will likely take a few additional weeks to thoroughly study the issue prior its next scheduled launch, that of the SES-8 Comsat headed to geostationary orbit with the new Falcon's East Coast debut.
While another major, and equally critical milestone for SpaceX, it is not the SES launch, but the next NASA launch, CRS-3 which is already shaping up to be one of 2014's most anticipated launch events. With the next two commercial launches pushing the Falcon 9's limits, SpaceX is not going to attempt another recovery until the more lightly burdened NASA CRS-3 mission to low Earth orbit, and depending on how the schedule breaks down, that launch may be the first to be equipped with the retractable flight weight landing legs SpaceX showcased earlier this year. While SpaceX will not likely be in a position to attempt a ground landing on that flight, engineers believe the stabilizing effect of the legs will be help bring the rotation encountered on the CASSIOPE flight within manageable limits.
Looking just a bit further down the road, the SpaceX founder also revealed that the company is in discussions with the FAA and Air Force to designate a site at the eastern tip of Cape Canaveral for Falcon 9 first stage landings, one of which could lead to a re-flight as early as the end of next year.
One other point brought up in the teleconference involves SpaceX's plans for KSC launch pad 39A. Assuming SpaceX gets past the objections raised by Blue Origin and secures a lease for the pad, plans call for the company to conduct all of its NASA launches to ISS out of that facility, while continuing to use SLC-40 for commercial and (eventually) military flights. Very significantly, it is these launches, sponsored by NASA and paid for by the taxpayers, which SpaceX is planning to use in its ongoing efforts to achieve first stage re-usability and drive down the costs to orbit.
Could there be a more powerful symbol for the potential inherent in the new approach to space operations demonstrated by both SpaceX and OSC, than a launch pad which saw tens of billions incinerated by a Shuttle system which succeeded in other ways, but failed miserably its initial and primary objective to lower costs, serve as the mid-wife for a new, and utterly transformative era of space transportation, and all at no additional cost to the taxpayer?

My feeling upon initially seeing it approach was sheer terror, primarily because of the noise, but after observing the big beast, I felt as though it was a large heavy lift balloon machine with a psy-ops feature to distract an enemy. We were woken up by what felt like an earthquake at 03:50 central time.
We ran outside and the air and ground was vibrating like standing next to a very loud speaker with a lot of bass. A bit faster than a heart beat.
There was no sound.
The craft was moving about 20mph in a W to E direction... a little NE... heading toward Killen/Fort Hood, TX.
The craft was as big as my 5 acres. There was no sound, no lights, the craft was illuminated by my street light. It was a very dark grey and we could see features... not very symmetrical in nature.
The craft was disk shape with a center fuselage, split down the middle, with the fuselage in-between the two disks. The fuselage was semi-square with rounded edges and corners. Kind of like Batmans Batwing... kind of.
The disk was about 30 feet thick/tall. There was no bevel or curve to shape. It was a big squarish disk split in half with a squarish fuselage.
It took about 5 minutes before it disappeared into the darkness. It did not zip away. There was swoosh just the steady deep earth shaking vibrations. No damage to my home or trees or anything. Enough vibration to wake us up and to make us run outside.
Shortly afterward (a minute or two), two apache Helicopters followed after it, traveling about the same speed.
NOW, THE `OTHER' EXPLANATION FOR THE ABOVE IS THAT THE `MILITARY' IS AWARE OF THESE BREACHES WITHIN OUR PERCEPTION FIELDS AND DOES SOME SORT OF FOLLOW UP CLEANSING IN A SENSE.
