Hi all,
There's a new book on the shelves of your local bookshop. It's "The UFO Singularity" written by Micah Hanks, published in 2013 by New Page Books, Pompton Plains, NJ. ISBN 978-1-60163-240-1. (Click here.)
"With this book, the primary goal has been to pare down the various sundry elements into a few likely possibilities, or maybe some intricate fusion between them, that bears greater promise in terms of explaining the UFO enigma in a new and perhaps even more technologically plausible way than past attempts." (p.26.)
Looking for an alternative to the unusual explanations for UFOs the author writes "...an intelligence 'explosion' conducive to the technological creations of some form of intelligence that far surpasses that which humans are naturally capable of. What this statement embodies is something many refer to as the singularity." (p.27.)
He considers four ways in which "...'singularity' and the technology it would comprise may be introduced on Earth." (p.31.) These are:
1. Extraterrestrial.
2. Secret military or private industry.
3. Extraterrestrial technology introduced by humans.
4. Humans from our future.
Hanks reviews the history of the thinking about a "singularity" noting that as early as 1965, British cryptologist and mathematician Irving J Good, (click here) had begun using the expression "intelligence explosion." (p.58.) Mathematician Vernor Vinge ( click here) in 1983 wrote "...we will soon create intelligences greater than our own. When this happens, human history will have reached a kind of singularity." (p.59.)
The author then reviews some of the thoughts of such individuals as Jacques Vallee, Whitley Strieber; then proceeds to examine the 1896-1897 "airship" wave. He goes on to take a look at some of the UFO reports of 1973, such as the Pascagoula incident, and then spends some time on a little known event which occurred in November 1973 at Locust Grove, Georgia.
The topic of abductions receives the author's attention taking a look at the work of such researchers as Kevin Randle, Kathleen Marden and Martin Cannon.
"No matter what their true origin may be, we nevertheless must accept the likelihood that UFOs and their associated technologies will likely prove to represent some form of what we could call near - or even, post - singularity intelligences." (p.175.)
In Chapter 6, Hanks writes "Throughout the last several decades, a number of well-respected scientific minds have come and gone, grappling amid footholds along the slippery slope that constitutes modern ufology." (p.179.) James E McDonald's work is used as an example of one such individual.
His "conclusion" chapter, includes:
"...but if, in the event that some UFO craft were found to be originating from our future, or from secret technology already in our midst, or from outer space - or from any place else, for that matter - by the time we have technology that would allow us to recognise or study these, our own technological capabilities will likely be nearing or intersecting with 'theirs.'..." (p.253.)

My father and I were driving eastbound on Easton Rd. on 6/16/13 at 9:45pm est. About a half mile from the bridge that crosses Rt. 62 I noticed out my passenger window balls of light in the sky. I asked my dad, What are those? He looked out my window, which faced south, and he immediately pulled over. We stood on the side of the road and watched as 10 to 15 sphere-shaped balls of light floated what looked to be directly over the city of Loeisville. Some were clustered closer together than others, and all seemed to be at slightly different elevations. There was a storm just to the west of them and the clouds were very low. One by one they disapeared from left to right as we watched them but the clouds were moving faster than they were. I can't be certain if they shot up into the air one by one. My dad felt they did. Or did they disappear one by one as the clouds overtook them. That is not clear.

NASA-funded lunar research has yielded evidence of water locked in mineral grains on the surface of the moon from an unknown source deep beneath the surface. Using data from NASA's Moon Mineralogy Mapper (M3) instrument aboard the Indian Space Research Organization's Chandrayaan-1 spacecraft, scientists remotely detected magmatic water, or water that originates from deep within the moon's interior, on the surface of the moon. The findings, published Aug. 25 in Nature Geoscience, represent the first detection of this form of water from lunar orbit. Earlier studies had shown the existence of magmatic water in lunar samples returned during the Apollo program. M3 imaged the lunar impact crater Bullialdus, which lies near the lunar equator. Scientists were interested in studying this area because they could better quantify the amount of water inside the rocks due to the crater's location and the type of rocks it held. The central peak of the crater is made up of a type of rock that forms deep within the lunar crust and mantle when magma is trapped underground. "This rock, which normally resides deep beneath the surface, was excavated from the lunar depths by the impact that formed Bullialdus crater," said Rachel Klima, a planetary geologist at the Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory (APL) in Laurel, Md. "Compared to its surroundings, we found that the central portion of this crater contains a significant amount of hydroxyl - a molecule consisting of one oxygen atom and one hydrogen atom -- which is evidence that the rocks in this crater contain water that originated beneath the lunar surface," Klima said. In 2009, M3 provided the first mineralogical map of the lunar surface and discovered water molecules in the polar regions of the moon. This water is thought to be a thin layer formed from solar wind hitting the moon's surface. Bullialdus crater is in a region with an unfavorable environment for solar wind to produce significant amounts of water on the surface. "NASA missions like Lunar Prospector and the Lunar Crater Observation and Sensing Satellite and instruments like M3 have gathered crucial data that fundamentally changed our understanding of whether water exists on the surface of the moon," said S. Pete Worden, center director at NASA's Ames Research Center in Moffett Field, Calif. "Similarly, we hope that upcoming NASA missions such as the Lunar Atmosphere and Dust Environment Explorer, or LADEE, will change our understanding of the lunar sky." The detection of internal water from orbit means scientists can begin to test some of the findings from sample studies in a broader context, including in regions that are far from where the Apollo sites are clustered on the near side of the moon. For many years, researchers believed that the rocks from the moon were bone-dry and any water detected in the Apollo samples had to be contamination from Earth. "Now that we have detected water that is likely from the interior of the moon, we can start to compare this water with other characteristics of the lunar surface," said Klima. "This internal magmatic water also provides clues about the moon's volcanic processes and internal composition, which helps us address questions about how the moon formed, and how magmatic processes changed as it cooled." APL is a not-for-profit division of Johns Hopkins University. Joshua Cahill and David Lawrence of APL and Justin Hagerty of the U.S. Geological Survey's Astrogeology Science Center in Flagstaff, Ariz., co-authored the paper. NASA's Lunar Advanced Science and Engineering Program, the NASA Lunar Science Institute (NLSI) at Ames and the NASA Planetary Mission Data Analysis Program supported the research. The reasons given for these events include things like facilitating creativity and critical thinking skills. But beyond this benign and well meaning educational intent, are some insidious elements. Often some staff, parents, and students are not told there events will take place;they just happen. In the past, these staged UFO crashes happened to a diverse student body, including students with behavioral or physical disability challenges, which caused trauma for the students. Parents were not informed. And,the police have a very active role in these scenarios. The favorite motif seems to be the UFO but other scenes have been used, like the "murder"(yes, murder) of a teacher on a playground -- once again, students, staff and parents not notified or prepared -- and in Scotland, a teacher telling several students to quickly get ready to leave the building, because the authorities were arriving soon to take them away to a government facility. The reason why the students were being taken away was, they were told, because they'd been found to be deficit in some ways.
